Ca'Gitana Italia
Our base in Italy is in the Marche countryside near the village of San Giovanni of Sassoferrato province of Ancona. The house name of Ca'Gitana derives from Ca' an ancient term for house or hamlet and Gitana 'Gypsy' Hence 'house of the Gypsy' - a fitting title since we travel between England and Italy.
La nostra base in Italia è nella campagna marchigiana vicino al paese di San Giovanni di Sassoferrato in provincia di Ancona. Il nome della casa di Ca'Gitana deriva da Ca', un antico termine per casa o borgata, e Gitana 'Zingara', da cui 'casa della Zingara' - un titolo appropriato dal fatto che viaggiamo tra l'Inghilterra e l'Italia.

The surrounding area is rich with history and folklore. It is said that witchcraft was widespread and the local mountain is known as 'La Strega' 'The Witch'. Legend has it that the mountain is protective and can become invisible to hide those seeking refuge - as was said to have happened to some partisans fleeing the nazis in WW2.
L'area circostante è ricca di storia e leggenda. Si dice che la stregoneria fosse molto diffusa e la montagna locale è conosciuta come 'La Strega'. La leggenda narra che la montagna sia protettiva e puo diventare invisibile per nascondere coloro che cercano rifugio, come si dice sia accaduto ad alcuni partigiani in fuga dai nazisti durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale.
The property has a wonderful view out across the valley towards Frasassi gorge - site of the largest caves in Europe and towards the Sibillini Mountains in the distance - hence a 'High Place' for meditation.
La proprietà ha una magnifica vista su tutta la vallata, verso la gola di Frasassi, sede delle grotte più grandi d'Europa, e verso i Monti Sibillini in lontananza, da qui un 'Posto Alto' per la meditazione.
We also have our stone circle where we may 'greet the sun' in the east each morning and indoor space for ceremonies if weather dictates.
Abbiamo anche il nostro cerchio di pietre dove possiamo "salutare il sole" all'est ogni mattina ed un spazio interno per cerimonie se il tempo lo richiede.

The area is associated with Celtic occupation and ancient graves have been found nearby with Celtic jewellry discoved in Sassoferrato. The Church of Santa Croce conceals an earlier Templar buiding which housed points of 'force' arising from the ground which some regard as supernatural energy and others magnetic forces - nevertheless they are very tangible and attest to the pagan importance of the area.
L'area è associata all'occupazione celtica e nelle vicinanze sono state trovate antiche tombe con gioielli celtici scoperti a Sassoferrato. La Chiesa di Santa Croce nasconde un precedente edificio templare che ospitava punti di 'forza' che sorgevano dal terreno e che alcuni considerano come energia soprannaturale e altri come forze magnetiche, tuttavia molto tangibili e attestano l'importanza pagana della zona.
